50,000 steps impossible? No way! Here are 5 reasons you CAN take on the 50,000 Steps Challenge.

Bored of clocking up 10,000 steps a day on your Fitbit? I don’t blame you.

So, what is next?

50,000 Steps in a day

Have you ever wondered how it feels to hike 50,000 steps in a day? How about 100,000?

I can tell you, it is mind-blowing and the kudos you’ll get within the Fitbit Community is on another level.

Hiking 50,000 steps in a day is an achievement. It’s a monumental boost to your self-esteem and it absolutely changes something in you, forever. This is the challenge that will restore your self-belief and reveal your grit and resolve.

But it’s also tough and, even if you’re hard as nails, you’ll find it emotional; your muscles and mind go through some pretty challenging stuff.

Is it worth it? Hell yes.

When you are out of your comfort zone and you are forced to dig deep, you discover your mind and body are capable of so much more than you ever imagined, you will find your hidden strength and resilience. More importantly, this renewed self-confidence will transform the way you perceive obstacles and challenges for the rest of your life and you should absolutely grab this chance with both hands, now.

Yet I guarantee you’ve already come up with at least 5 excuses why you don’t think you’re up to it:

  • You don’t think you’re fit enough
  • You think you will fail
  • You cannot even fathom what 50,000 steps look like
  • The idea that there might be no toilets
  • You have got nobody to do it with

The fact is, with Robustours’ help, you can 100% complete the 50,000 steps challenge hike in a day, (and even our 100,000 step challenge). The only thing stopping you from smashing this epic goal right now is you.

But I can see you still need a little persuading, so here’s how you need to look at it:

1. You’re already fit enough

It’s a misconception that you need to be super-fit to do this. Your body can pretty much take on anything – it’s your mind you need to convince. Hiking for 10-12 hours in a day is more about overcoming the voice in your head that’s telling you ‘you can’t’. Prove it wrong. Acknowledge short-term discomfort and push past it. It’s about keeping going and deciding not to quit. It’s also about picturing how you’ll feel when you finish with that overwhelming sense of real accomplishment.

2. Just put one foot in front of the other

When I first attempted the 100,000-step challenge, I tried it solo and I didn’t finish. Would I call it failure? Of course not, because by my 3rd attempt, I knew exactly what I needed to do to complete the challenge – down to the last biscuit.

At Robustours, we do the prep so that you don’t have to. Yes, you have to walk 50,000 steps over varied terrain, but we guide you, support you, and encourage you all the way. I’ll even tell you what to eat and when to drink so that you can focus on putting one foot in front of the other. And if you still need some convincing, wait until you feel the impact of doing this as a group, you’ll push each other through the uncomfortable bits, make each other laugh and share the huge sense of achievement at the end. Awesome stuff.

3. We’ve planned the perfect route

If you’re used to clocking up your daily steps by walking around your housing estate and can’t fathom how to stretch that to 50,000, this is a totally different, far more achievable, approach.

Wondering what 50,000 steps actually looks like? It’s a tried and tested route that takes in some of North Yorkshire’s most beautiful scenery with its moorland heather, Jurassic coastline, and breath-taking views along the Cleveland Way. It’s 50,000 perfect steps with epic photo opportunities and huge skies – the ultimate route to restore your self-belief, fire up your self-esteem, and smash your fitness goals.

4. When nature calls, nature provides

Yes, you’ll need to get your head around the outdoor toilet facilities. But just go with it.

Everyone is in the same boat, nobody’s looking and you’ll find the Cleveland Way offers the perfect range of rustic, wild toilet options to suit everyone – from crouching in heather and popping behind trees to diving behind huge, rocky outcrops with spectacular views.

5. You’ll be with your mates – just new ones

Worried you won’t convince your mates to do it with you? Doesn’t matter – this is about you, and you’ll meet a cracking bunch of likeminded adventurists on the day. Just like you, they’ll be full of nerves and excitement, ready to achieve something awesome and itching to bask in the glory of their 50,000-steps. But I think it’s time you stepped out of your comfort zone to find out for yourself.

  1. Great blog, 100% mind over matter.

After doing my first 23 miler with Robustours I quickly learnt what an experienced leader and group of likeminded people can do to boost morale, and self confidence. And what an achievement when we all finished!

Looking forward to the next one!

  2. I took on the 50,000 steps in n preperation for the 100,000 steps. I didn’t know anyone other then John at the start of the day but after the first hour was joking with everyone like I had known them for ages. We finished the day with a pint and fish and chips and a sense of achievement that won’t go away. Amazing day that I would love to do again
